Roger Sainsbury, chair of The NYA, had written to Education Secretary Ruth Kelly expressing concern about "planning blight" in youth services stemming from delays to the green paper. Writing in reply, youth minister Margaret Hodge MP said she understood concerns but wanted to "make sure we take the time to get things right". She continued that "good youth work will continue to make a strong and valuable contribution to services to young people". The minister reaffirmed her commitment to the Transforming Youth Work agenda and said it was important that services in both statutory and voluntary sectors continue their efforts to raise the quality and quantity of youth work with support from government.
