The National Youth Agency: Major event will showcase young people'sheritage

1 min read

Celebrating Young Roots takes place at the Brunei Gallery at the School of African & Oriental Studies. It is co-sponsored by The National Youth Agency and aimed at representatives of organisations working with youth and at the young people themselves.

The agenda includes live presentations by several projects that have received grant aid through the HLF's Young Roots programme. These will feature music, drama, a fashion show and street dance as well as a video presentation. It is hoped that a government minister responsible for culture and the arts will make a keynote speech.

As well as celebrating recent achievements, the event will include a wealth of information to help youth groups make successful applications for Young Roots grants of up to 25,000 for a specific project. A panel discussion, chaired by former EastEnders actress Bindya Solanki, who played Nina in the soap, will feature young people involved in some of the projects showcased at the event and youth workers. There will be two workshops looking at youth participation and partnership issues, and the event will close with a performance by poet Crisis.
