The National Youth Agency: Projects take stage at Young RootsParliament celebration

1 min read

Philip Udeh, one of the youngest recipients of a Young Roots grant, spoke about his project, Urban Roots Dance Projects. Urban Roots received a grant of 24,920 and involved young people in exploring the heritage of UK street dancing.

The project organised lively workshops that enabled 46 participants to investigate the history of UK street dance and explore what heritage meant to them and how it related to their lives. The project culminated in a show at the Hackney Empire and a DVD of their experiences.

Other projects showcased at the event included: the Fairbridge Conservation for the Next Generation project from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Trust; the Proud to be Pakistani project, a partnership between Youth Voice and Leicester City Museum Service; Carving History in the Wilderness, an initiative between Gloucestershire County Archaeology Service and Youth Service; the Pit to Port project from Rhondda in Wales; and The Foyer Project from Belfast.
