The National Youth Agency: Life on The Edge looks at children's trusts

The Autumn issue of The Edge, The National Youth Agency's newspaper about youth affairs for local authority elected members, leads off with children's minister Beverley Hughes hitting back at Audit Commission claims that children's trusts are failing to make a difference to services.

Other stories look at young people's role in participatory budgeting, youth work support in the world of social networking, the benefits of mentoring, Britishness and the real picture on teenage pregnancy.

Features include a case study from Sheffield on commissioning positive activities and empowering young people and making the most of the youth opportunity and youth capital funds. An evaluation has been welcomed by government as demonstrating the programmes to be "a huge success". Elsewhere a round up of Youth Work Week shows the range of activities that took place during the week and Plymouth explains and celebrates what it has achieved so far in improving its youth service.
