"We are entering a wonderful period for The NYA," said Bishop Sainsbury.
"It's an exciting new phase for all of us, and it's good to see these new facilities and excellent, open-plan offices. It helps us to move forward, and we continue to have faith in young people, the youth service and are positive about the future."
Hope, who worked for The National Youth Agency (or National Youth Bureau as it was then called) some two decades ago, said it was inspiring to return after so long and see so much progress. "I think The NYA gets into your blood," he said. "The things it stands for - healthy debate, achievement and positive change - really fire you up. Today's NYA staff have kept alive our commitment to good services for young people. I honestly believe there is now an opportunity for a whole new framework and contract for those working with young people. The new NYA building, with its wonderful staff and resources, provides us all with a marvellous opportunity."
