The Minister's comments came in a letter endorsing the "broad thrust"of the report of the Workforce Implementation Development group. This committee, led by The NYA with representation from key partners, made a series of recommendations to help develop the youth work workforce in the light of the Transforming Youth Work agenda. These included proposals in the areas of new qualifications, quality assurance on training provision , resourcing issues and staff development.
"We need to recruit and to train and youth workers who are skilled up to respond to the expanding needs presented by young people today," stated the Minister. "It is essential that youth work professionals are able to take their place among other professionals from allied fields confident that they are making a positive contribution to the lives of young people."
