The National Youth Agency: Heritage needs to be broader and moreinclusive, says NYA

The Agency wants to see the forthcoming white paper on heritage go beyond the built environment and artefacts of national significance to cover a much broader definition of heritage. The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), in partnership with The NYA, has been encouraging young people and heritage professionals to redefine heritage and explore issues of identity, culture, faith, traditions and customs - thereby making heritage more accessible.

The NYA is asking the department to tailor its heritage work to reach a much broader cross-section of the population. The NYA-HLF-backed Young Roots programme is currently monitoring 500 projects to identify the long-term impact on young people and the communities they live in.
