THE NATIONAL YOUTH AGENCY: Giving credit to young mums

The Teenage Mothers Mentoring Project is funded by The National Youth Agency through the Neighbourhood Support Fund and delivered by the Connexions Service. It allows young mothers to share the wisdom of their experience with other mothers-to-be and offer vital advice and emotional support.

Women aged 17 to 25 meet weekly for 16 weeks to receive training around childcare and health awareness. At the end of the 16 weeks they qualify for Open College Network NVQ levels 1 and 2 certification. Some 90 per cent of participants from the first running of the course have gone on to employment or further training
