"I initially got involved because I was undertaking my Community Sports Leadership Award through my school. I decided to look for a placement in a less traditional setting and came across the Percy Hedley Academy. My role as a volunteer has been to assist children and adults who have cerebral palsy and physical disabilities to take part in disability sports clubs and training. I have worked with young children at a Powerchair football club, assisted with training for Boccia competitions and at a multi-sports club for both adults and children.
"Volunteering with the Academy has certainly had a big impact on me, opening my eyes to the world of disability sports. My experiences have contributed widely to my decision to apply to study medicine this year."
