The National Youth Agency: Detached youth work conference setspriorities for National Federation

In the absence of the long promised but not delivered youth green paper, the federation arranged a conference to examine the implications for detached youth work of other recent policies and initiatives including Transforming Youth Work, Every Child Matters, the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and recent evaluations of youth work and Connexions carried out by De Montfort University.

The conference in particular considered the implications of the five outcomes set out in Every Child Matters: being healthy; staying safe; enjoying and achieving; making a positive contribution; and economic wellbeing.

The conference was challenged to demonstrate how detached youth work could contribute to these outcomes. Three key areas for action by the federation were identified:
