The plan for big drivers to deepen and extend partnerships received positive feedback at the workshops, and the opportunity for cross-borough commissioning in London was welcomed.
Other opportunities identified included redefinition of the role of the voluntary and community sector as providers and as strategists, and it was acknowledged that the great increase in the involvement in decision making of young people has a lot of potential. However, one of the key challenges identified was the need for support costs to aid the genuine involvement of young people in planning, designing, delivering and inspecting.
There was also concern that people with expertise in youth work must be involved in the commissioning process in order to ensure that quality standards and processes are built into specifications. It was also felt innovation and flexibility within commissioning needs to be ensured.
