So, what does volunteering mean to you? Charity shops? Jumble sales? Think again.

For 22-year-old Jenny, it's about campaigning for free HIV funding. For Kelly, 23, it's about lobbying for disability rights. For 21-year-old Hogar, it's about befriending unaccompanied asylum seekers. Far from being the preserve of Middle England, for many young people, volunteering presents an exciting and creative way to make a tangible difference to the world they live in.

At a policy level too, these are exciting times for young people volunteering. Hot on the heels of the Commission on the Future of Volunteering's report comes an independent enquiry chaired by Baroness Morgan on the future of volunteering by young adults aged 18 to 24. The National Youth Agency (NYA) has submitted a response with the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE).
