It's reported that there has been a dramatic increase in the number of people looking for opportunities to volunteer. This rise is of course attributed to rising unemployment levels across the country. Volunteering is seen as a good way of using spare time, of polishing up soft skills such as teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills, of standing out from the crowd to increase individual employability.
Research recently published by the Institute of Volunteering Research, showed that 87 per cent of local volunteer centres saw an increase in enquiries about volunteering opportunities over the past six months. And some three-quarters reported that volunteers showed a high level of interest in using their experience of volunteering to find employment.
