The National Youth Agency: Annual report calls for young people tobe shown respect

Writing in the report, Tom Wylie, chief executive at The NYA, says: "Our society has become rather fearful about young people. At times, fearful for them; at others, fearful of them. Neither position is particularly helpful as the basis either for living in communities or for the making of public policy about the young. Not least, a concern for extremes ignores the lives of the great generality of young people who are learning how to make sense of the adult world and how to stand on their own two feet within it.

"The National Youth Agency aspires to help to develop the potential capacities of all young people as the foundation on which they can build fulfilling and purposeful lives. We aim, through good youth work, to increase their life chances."
