Writing to key stakeholders she said: "This is a key part of our overall drive to promote young people's participation in positive activities as well as tackle negative perceptions, and fulfils the promise set out in Aiming High to explore the potential of a national youth week."
She added: "I do not intend this to be a one-off event, but a continuing campaign to celebrate all that is best in our young people. We think it is most appropriate that the Shine Festival (a national celebration of young people's talents and achievements) should be the vehicle through which we take forward the idea of a national youth week, and this year Shine Week is planned for 6-10 July."
