Chief executive Fiona Blacke, said: "We need someone with a proven commitment to young people who is passionate about improving their lives.
"They will have a track record working at the highest levels in the public, voluntary or private sectors, sharp political acumen and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
"They will also have knowledge of the charity sector and experience of quality assurance, risk management and audit processes."
As well as chairing The NYA's executive board and ensuring it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of The NYA, the new chair will also work with the chief executive to optimise the relationship between the board, the executive, staff and stakeholoders, serving as a spokesperson and promoter of The NYA and young people's interests.
