Organisation Cheshire County Council Issue To prevent the closure of a residential facility for young disabled people
The situation Education staff consulted children and young people and their parents about the proposal to close the residential provision at their school. The children and young people did not want the provision to close and made it clear that they valued the opportunity to socialise and spend time sharing activities with their friends. Parents spoke about how they felt the provision was an essential part of encouraging greater independence. A DVD was produced capturing the views of pupils and their parents, emphasising the social and educational value of the residential provision. It was shown to education staff and senior managers.
