The National Youth Agency: Access - What's changed

1 min read
What's Changed is a tool for groups to record the outcomes of participation by young people. Every other week we summarise an example of how young people have brought about change.

Organisation: Markfield Community Centre and MPower

Issue: Play facilities to fit the needs of children and young people

The situation: MPower, the youth participation group of the Markfield Community Centre for disabled young people and their families, decided work was needed on the centre's garden. It wished to make the garden and play equipment more challenging, fun and accessible for all children using the centre. MPower canvassed other young people for their opinions and visited other play facilities. They received funding from the YOF/YCF and other sources. What children and young people said

"Being involved helps us make a positive contribution to the community." "It isn't just the adults doing it. It makes us feel more confident and able to express what we think." "Some of us have never been asked to be involved in planning things before because of our disability."
