The National Youth Agency: Access - What's changed

1 min read
What's Changed is a tool for groups to record the outcomes of participation by young people. Every other week we summarise an example of how young people have brought about change.

- Organisation 2D, Wear Valley, County Durham Issue Removal of a mosquito device

The situation Wear Valley District Council erected a "mosquito" dispersal device in Crook town centre. A young person brought this to the attention of the young people's participation worker and expressed their belief that it was not fair. The young person was supported by the young people's participation worker to contact the local press, report it as a matter to the police and register a complaint to the council.

- What children and young people said

"The change was really quick because the council switched it off and had taken it down by the next day. They didn't want the newspaper to write the story but I felt people should still know so we let them print it. When I first heard the noise it was like a horrible screeching noise and put my hands over my ears. Now it has gone and it is much better for me and all the other kids who would have heard it too."
