NYA participation team trainer Antony Butcher reflects on an event designed to ensure young people's voices are heard within Herefordshire Children and Young People's Trust.

On Friday 26 October, 42 young people (and five babies!) gathered to make their voices heard to senior members of the Here-fordshire Children and Young People's Trust.

Amanda Edwards, event co-ordinator, said: "The event was about making sure adults do more than pay lip service to involving young people. It has been a very positive day and some of the young people have been surprised with how much they can shape services."

With the help of The National Youth Agency's Hear by Right Building Standards, the young people agreed their top priorities and developed an action plan with the managers, which they signed and are now committed to implementing. The NYA participation team's resident artist, Lisa Hartland, recorded the day on canvas, including images inspired by the young people of speaking out, listening and affecting change.
