The National Youth Agency: A National Voice strides forward withoptimism as it becomes independent

A National Voice (ANV), a leading organisation for children and young people in care throughout England, is celebrating becoming an independent company, run by young people for young people.

A National Voice has already launched two major campaigns, including the highly successful "This is not a suitcase" drive, which resulted in more than 80 local authorities stopping moving young people in care with bin bags and finally giving them a suitcase. This small practical change is a massive victory not only for ANV but for everyone in the care system.

Lucy Smith, the new chair of the board of directors, believes that although there are daunting challenges ahead, exciting opportunities are there to enjoy. She said: "ANV needs to be inspiring and aspiring; inspiring to young people in care and to those working in the care system; aspiring to be the best we can as an organisation."
