The Marine Conservation Society

1 min read Education Extra-curricular
What are they doing? The Marine Conservation Society is embarking on its fifth year touring primary schools across the UK. Its interactive event, the Cool Seas Roadshow, is designed to inspire pupils to learn more about marine conservation and the creatures that live in the UK's seas.

What does it involve? The Cool Seas Roadshow introduces classes to the UK's marine wildlife, including big sea creatures such as whales and basking sharks. The roadshow also reveals the secretive habits of some of the UK's lesser-known seabed creatures.

Anything else? The events are used to encourage discussions about the threats sea creatures face from pollution and marine litter. Interactive role-plays are used to demonstrate how everyone can help preserve marine life. The roadshow also provides learning materials for pupils and teachers.

What do the professionals think? Andy Starbuck, who presents the roadshow, says pupils and teachers are often amazed that there are whales, dolphins, sharks and turtles living in UK seas. Peter Richardson, biodiversity programme manager at the Marine Conservation Society, adds: "Our younger generations are very keen to help protect this marine heritage for themselves and generations to come."
