New executive director for children and families at Essex County Council Helen Lincoln proved her mettle by taking part in a sponsored abseil at the council offices.

Lincoln joined council chief executive Gavin Jones and other leaders in taking the plunge to raise money to fund a research trip to Finland for five members of the Essex Children in Care Council. The abseil and other sponsored activities run by the young people raised £2,350 towards the £4,300 cost of the trip.

Greening fails the social snobbery test

Social mobility is a key buzz phrase at the Department for Education, and is an issue close to the heart of Education Secretary Justine Greening. At a recent event to launch the Social Mobility Employer Index - a joint initiative between the Social Mobility Commission and Social Mobility Foundation - she explained her own experience of social snobbery.
