The Ferret: Scie's the limit for changing around chairs

3 mins read
Unusual goings on at the Social Care Institute for Excellence (Scie).

In late summer, Scie announced former care minister Paul Burstow as its new chair. The former Liberal Democrat MP and current chair of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust has much experience and knowledge that makes him ideal for such a role. However, his appointment came just a few months after Alison O'Sullivan, former director of children's services in Kirklees and a past president of the Association of Directors of Children's Services, was appointed as Scie chair.

It transpires that six days after appointing O'Sullivan, Scie announced it would not be proceeding.

As strong an appointment as Burstow's doubtless is, Ferret is disappointed by this volte-face - for an organisation that tends to focus largely on adult social care over children's services, O'Sullivan's appointment would have offered a welcome opportunity to redress that balance.
