Teenagers to pass on Olympic torch

Youth Work
Eighteen young people aged between 14 and 18 will take part in the Olympic Torch Relay in London on 6 April.

The event will involve a total of 80 torch bearers - including Olympic athletes and celebrities - carrying the torch across the capital from Wembley Arena Square, in the shadow of Wembley Stadium, to Peninsular Square in Docklands.

It constitutes one stage of the worldwide Beijing Olympic Torch Relay that will go to 22 cities on five continents before arriving in Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games on 8 August.

Last autumn, London Mayor Ken Livingstone wrote to schools in the capital asking each of them to nominate two torchbearers. Those chosen have been selected for their interest in sport, their contributions to their community or for having overcome difficult personal circumstances.
