Teenage pregnancy: Schools to receive practice guidance

The guidance will aim to strengthen targeted work on reducing teenage conceptions, within the framework of the Next Steps programme launched last summer (YPN, 26 July-1 August 2006, p5). It will advise colleges on how to set up on-site services.

Robert MacPherson, national policy manager at the Teenage Pregnancy Unit, said: "Final drafts of guidance for further education colleges and schools need to be signed off by ministers. We are trying to help local areas target their teenage pregnancy strategies to areas with high teenage conception rates.

"We have been doing some mapping work around conception hot spots and school catchment areas but you can't do a precise match of conceptions with individual schools."
