TEENAGE PREGNANCY: Report says more must be done to lower teenage conception

The Independent Advisory Group on Teenage Pregnancy made its case in its second annual report, published last week. Efforts to lower teenage conception rates are working, according to the group, but addressing disadvantaged groups would help the Government reach its target of halving the under-18 conception rate by 2010.

Making personal, health and social education (PHSE), which covers sex and relationship education, part of the curriculum is also recommended.

Advisory group member Simon Blake, assistant director of the Children's Personal Development Unit at the National Children's Bureau, said: "We must have a positive culture, supported by parents, communities and the Government."
