Selfishness among adults is having a damaging effect on children and young people, according to a high-profile study by The Children's Society.
The report is the culmination of three years' worth of research for the charity's Good Childhood Inquiry. It found that adults' pursuit of personal success is fuelling inequality and leaving children unhappy and under pressure. This raises a number of issues about the relationship between young people and adults, as well as their place in society.
The report's focus on the erosion of community spirit is an issue that the youth charity Street Dreams already uses as a topic of discussion among young people. It has developed a model that asks young people to consider how they can become more community focused.
