Adam Offord finds out from five prospective MPs from the children and youth sectors why they are standing for parliament, their campaign priorities, and what issues they think are important for children and families.

Why did you enter politics?

I've always had a keen interest in politics, recognised a political dimension to my youth and community work and have been active in the Labour Party since my teens. Recently, I've found it increasingly difficult to take a back seat as I learn more about the impact of this current government's policies on the most disadvantaged in society.

I also believe in the power of politics to achieve positive change - but in order to do so, it must be more embedded in local communities.

I get so frustrated with the quality of what passes for politics today - the endless slanging matches in parliament, the scandals and some of the quality of public debate on issues that affect people's lives.
