Election 2010: Candidates to watch

Ross Watson asks four familiar faces from the children and youth sectors why they are standing as MPs and what their priorities will be if elected on 6 May.

SHAUN BAILEY: Conservative candidate for Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush and co-founder of youth charity My Generation

Why did you get into politics? It was a demonstration to the young people I work with. I'm always saying you can't complain about stuff until you try to do something about it. A mother of a young person I work with said I can't just tell them, I need to show them. For me it's an extension of community work and a demonstration of how to get involved.

What are your main campaigning issues? Helping young people is not about focusing directly on young people's issues. It is the wider societal aspects such as education, housing and welfare. It doesn't matter how many youth clubs you've got; they are secondary if you don't get the other things right.
