Sustainable Development: DfES ponders plans for a youth forum

The idea is the key recommendation of a Department for Education and Skills (DfES) working group, which is finalising its report and action plan on the subject.

Officials envisage the forum as an independent agency, led by a non-governmental organisation. It would promote the role of sustainable development in youth work, encourage partnership working between the two areas, advocate new programmes and develop proposals for central government.

A spokeswoman for the Council for Environmental Education said: "We welcome a forum, but call on the DfES to ensure a commitment to sustainable development in all youth work policies. A strong lead from the DfES would highlight sustainable development as a priority for the sector."
