Project: Suffolk Reparation and Mediation Service
Funding: £200,000 a year from Suffolk Youth Offending Service
Aim: To supervise and rehabilitate young offenders
Young people serving community punishments are being given the chance to meet the victims of their crime as part of a project being held in Suffolk.
The Suffolk Reparation and Mediation Service, run by national charity Catch22, operates within the county's youth offending service.
Staff receive around 50 referrals a month and oversee young people aged from 10 to 18 working on a range of schemes, including decorating homes for the elderly and work on conservation sites.
Part of the scheme involves the potential for victims to have an input into what kind of work should be undertaken as well as giving both parties an opportunity to meet. The aim is for service users to take responsibility for their actions as well as allowing victims of crime a voice.
