Gladstone Children's Centre in Peterborough used the Muslim holy month of Ramadan to reach out to Muslim dads and encourage them to adopt healthy lifestyles.
The centre ran a mini-health drive promoted through Muslim community venues and supported by the council and local health services. It was one way to tackle health inequalities in central Peterborough where there are high rates of smoking and heart disease among Pakistani Muslim men.
"We wanted to get the message across that if you're unhealthy, your children are more likely to be unhealthy," says Haroon Bhabha, fathers' health support co-ordinator at the centre.
