The 91 standards are expected to affect all drug and alcohol professionals, including referral workers and agencies.
Following a two-year study by the Skills for Health Sector Skills Council, the Drugs and Alcohol National Occupational Standards are expected to become a best practice standard. It was launched in England earlier this year.
A spokesperson for the Welsh Assembly said: "The aim of the standards is to achieve consistency in practice across Wales."
