"Getting drugs is just like buying a pint of milk." This was how a recent Lancashire Evening Telegraph article summed up how easy it was for young people to acquire drugs in the area.
The findings came from an independent study of 16- to 25-year-olds in Burnley that found that 84 per cent of those surveyed said they could easily get hold of drugs if they wanted them.
The widespread availability of illicit substances has led to the region having the second-highest admission rate for drug treatment in England.
It has also prompted the Government to nearly double the budget that Lancashire Drug Action Team spends on young people, from 500,000 to 920,000 a year, to allow the team to restructure its services.
