Six drug action teams were given funding to run the sports-based crime-reduction programme locally back in April (YPN, 2-8 March, p5). But sources close to the decision to outsource the programme suggested this idea is now "dead" as a long-term solution. It is understood the main concern was that the mechanism made projects too focused on particular issues.
In a statement, the Home Office said that outsourcing the national management of Positive Futures is the best way to continue the development of the programme. The statement added that the decision "was based on the evaluation of a number of options", and that the move would not affect the management of projects at a local level.
