The scheme is the brainchild of the Ascension Trust, an evangelism training organisation. 'Street pastors' armed with Bibles and special jackets and baseball caps will patrol inner-city streets, meeting young people where they gather.
Mark Sturge, general director of the African and Caribbean Evangelical Alliance, said: "We welcome the initiative, as black churches do not do nearly enough to engage young people."
