Sport: Foyer starts sports journalism project

Under the Tackling Skills project, launched last week, the federation has teamed up with the BBC and football clubs to provide young people with work experience and training in writing sports reports. The eight-week programme aims to improve young people's literacy and communication skills.

Up to six young people will take part at a time, with four groups to be taken on each year.

Jo Tongue, project manager of the scheme, said: "They'll watch a match and we'll ask them to write a report based on their news-gathering skills. The trick is not to let them know they are learning and they will see afterwards how much they have managed to achieve."
