Sport: Football hero awards teens

A team of vulnerable young people from Newcastle got the chance to meet football legend Sir Bobby Robson last month after winning a tournament for disadvantaged teenagers.

Robson presented members of the team with awards after they triumphed at a five-a-side tournament in the North-East in December.

The team, which is made up of young men living in the Tyneside Foyer in Stonham, were victorious over charity teams from Crisis, Escape and Depaul UK.

Pat Lannen, service manager at Tyneside Foyer, said: "Sir Bobby is a hero in the north. The young people were totally blown away by the experience of meeting him personally. This experience will stay with them for a long time to come."
