More than 60 children from six primary schools spread across the cityare coming together for today's Linking Communities Tournament. Thechildren will be put into six-a-side teams made up of children fromdifferent schools and containing at least two girls. The tournament'sorganisers hope mixing up the children will encourage them to befriendchildren who either have different backgrounds or live in differentparts of Bradford.
"A lot of community cohesion work is at the older end of the spectrum,"says Rhalia Hussain, the event's organiser and a learning mentor atSpringwood Primary School. "But to really tackle issues of linkingcommunities we need to get children involved earlier."
The winning team will be presented with a trophy by players fromBradford City Football Club at one of the club's forthcoming games.
