SPORT: Football Foundation to improve pitches

A range of young people's clubs and activities will benefit from a 908,000 grant from the Football Foundation to the Royal Parks to improve 13 pitches and develop new activities.

The work is to start at the end of April and could take until September 2004 to complete. It will include a Saturday morning youth football programme, a Street Football League for homeless people and community football schemes run by Arsenal and Queens Park Rangers.

A Football Foundation spokesman said recent media stories that the Football Association was considering reducing its support for the foundation were unfounded.
