The move is part of an initiative called Early Support, which is runjointly by the north London borough and Barnet Primary Care Trust andsupported by charities including the National Autistic Society.
Through the initiative around 50 families can choose a key worker fromthe health or social care professionals they come in contact with, whowill then help with paperwork and booking appointments. The key workerwill also act as a point of contact with other professionals thefamilies are dealing with.
A council spokeswoman said that although each key worker would notreceive any extra pay it is hoped the scheme would reduce the workloadfor all the area's social and health workers in the long term.
