Education News: Scotland - Parents to get help on special needs

Parents of children with special educational needs in Scotland are to get extra help from a project being launched later this month.

The charity Children in Scotland is mobilising volunteers who will helpparents to stand up for their child's rights. The project coincides withnew laws that will strengthen parents' rights to be involved indecisions about special educational needs teaching.

The laws are due to come into effect on 14 November.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Executive last week published a new schools billthat will give parents the right to raise unresolved concerns withschools inspectors and choose the best system of parental representationfor their school.
