What is it like? The garden has a landscaped seating area, benches, a trellis, a paved walkway and raised flowerbeds so that the pensioners can do some gardening if they want to.
Why did they do it? The students are studying towards National Open College Network qualifications in construction so building the garden helped hone their skills. The students had also worked on the site before and enjoyed it. As part of a different project, they landscaped a nature pond at the school to help pupils learn about the natural world.
What do people think? One of the students, 20-year-old Jason Drennon, says he really enjoyed building the garden: "The part I liked best was the slabbing and it feels really good to help make something like this. It makes me very proud." Dorinda Holloway, who runs the Lazenby Day Centre, says: "It is absolutely beautiful and we are so pleased with it. Before we didn't have a nice area for them to sit on sunny days and now they can do a little bit of gardening."
