Social inclusion: Volunteer funds go to youth schemes

Young people's projects have received about 250,000 in the latest round of awards from a government fund set up to recruit more volunteers from hard-to-reach groups.

Third sector minister Ed Miliband announced last week that 1.1m would be distributed through his office's GoldStar programme, which was established in November last year.

It is awarding 5m over two years to socially excluded groups in response to fears that they are under-represented in volunteering.
