The series, provisionally named The Eddie Jordan Project, is being produced by Zig Zag Productions for Five. Filming is due to start this month.
The six one-hour episodes will follow the progress of between eight and 10 young men who have dropped out of mainstream education or been involved in crime.
Over six weeks, they will take part in a course of car mechanics, teambuilding and motivational activities. Youth workers will also provide support.
Zig Zag Productions hopes to provide the participants with the opportunity to gain a mechanics qualification and to find ways of helping them into work or training placements once the filming is finished.
