Lee Hurwitz discovers how young people from Centrepoint provided the inspiration for one of the award-winning gardens at this year's Hampton Court Palace Flower Show

Garden designer Claire Whitehouse stands back and looks with pride at her latest award-winning garden at the flower show at Hampton Court Palace.

But although Whitehouse designed the serene plot in the heart of one the world's leading flower shows, there is an underlying characteristic that separates it from her previous work. The garden has been inspired - and partly designed - by young people from Centrepoint, which works with socially excluded and homeless teenagers and young adults.

The charity is using the flower show to raise the profile of its work and to highlight a new horticultural training scheme for homeless young people that started in January.
