Garden will take learning outdoors

Education
A garden designed to aid outdoor learning has found a permanent home in Birmingham.

The Growing Schools garden, previewed at last year's Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and co-designed by young people, has eight areas for out-of-classroom teaching.

The garden features 3,000 plant species and its areas include an evolutionary path and a food and farming zone.

The garden was put together by charities Learning Through Landscapes and Farming and Countryside Education, as well as the Department for Children, Schools and Families. A website has also been launched.

Schools minister Lord Andrew Adonis said: "I hope teachers will be inspired by the garden. Getting out of the classroom brings learning to life. "
