Social Care News: Young carers - Call for a stronger consultation focus

The need to consult children and young people on decisions affecting them should be made clearer in local authority guidance on the Carers (Equal Opportunities) Act 2004, says Barnardo's.

Jan Morrison, principal policy officer at the charity, said a requirement to consult children and young people should be made "much more strongly" in the guidance, which includes information on young carers.

Greater emphasis on local authorities' responsibilities to make services, such as after-school clubs, accessible to disabled children should also be made, she added.
