Social Care News: Workforce - Strategy a letdown for foster carers

Fostering campaigners say they are disappointed by the lack of detail on fostering in the children's workforce strategy launched last week.

Felicity Collier, chief executive of BAAF Adoption & Fostering, said there was not sufficient detail on the link between the shortage of social workers and recruitment and retention of foster carers. "If foster carers are not supported they leave services," she said.

Collier was also concerned that career progression had not been highlighted.

She said: "There is no mention of the registration of foster carers, which should be a requirement."
